The Journey of Words Begins Here

”Jay Scott Jones named after Jay Gatsby and F. Scott Fitzgerald grew up with a name that carried the weight of literary giants, though his own story took a very different path. He never planned to become an author, but after years of writing, a teacher encouraged him to gather his words into what he now calls an accidental memoir a blend of memory, humor, reflection, and loss.

At 65, with a young son named Jesse, Jay sees writing as a way to preserve his voice and pass on the stories of the “fabulous Joneses” that live within his family. His book captures the sense of living multiple lives in one lifetime, navigating joy, tragedy, and renewal. Equal parts raw and tender, his work isn’t just for an audience of many it may be for an audience of one. And for Jay, one is enough.”

When Vengeance Meets Survival:

NINE-DOLLAR BILL

Lacy asked me if I would attend Jesse’s kindergarten graduation, and I said the first thing that entered my mind: “Kindergarten graduation? Hell no.” I’d never even heard the term before. I launched into a good-natured rant about it being one of those helicopter parent inventions where every child must always win and just getting up in the morning merits a standing ovation…

I envision Jesse’s kindergarten graduation like this: Junie, Murphy and I are standing at the back, sincerely applauding the teachers and kids, blameless in the whole charade, Murphy and I nudging each other with sarcastic commentary on the rest of the spectacle, as the tiny scholars proceed down the tiny aisle in their tiny caps and tiny gowns that cost $200 for the one-time gig.
